Minimum room sizes in the Turkish regulation
| Space | Minimum area | Minimum short side |
|---|---|---|
| Bathroom | 3.00 m² | 1.50 m |
| Toilet (WC) | 1.20 m² | 1.00 m |
Under Turkey's Planned Areas Zoning Regulation (article 29), the bathroom and toilet can be in the same space in homes with up to three rooms. In bathrooms and WCs, the clear ceiling height can go down to 2.20 m (article 28).
Clearance in front of fixtures
The NKBA bathroom planning guidelines recommend 76 cm of clearance in front of the toilet, washbasin and bathtub; many building codes set a minimum of 53 cm. The recommended shower tray size is 91 × 91 cm, the smallest 76 × 76 cm. In all the plans below, the space in front of the toilet is wider than 1 m and the shower tray is 90 × 90 cm.
WC: 2.5 m²
A separate WC takes some of the load off the bathroom in a busy home. If the door opens inwards, the leaf must not hit the toilet; in a narrow WC an outward-opening or sliding door may be more comfortable.
Shower room: 4 m²
Put the shower in the corner farthest from the door; the wet area stays away from the doorway. You can put the washbasin under the window, but remember you won't be able to hang a mirror above it.
Bathroom with a tub: 6.2 m²
For a 170 × 75 cm bathtub, one side of the bathroom must be at least 1.70 m. The washing machine door should face into the room, with enough space in front to bend down.
Electrics in the bathroom
In the bathroom, the position of sockets and lights depends on their distance from water. For details and a zone drawing, see the socket and switch heights post.
