Example: 44 m² net, 1 bedroom
- Living room + kitchen 4.80 × 5.80 m, 27.8 m²: single-row kitchen on the left wall, dining table by the window, seating in the middle.
- Bedroom 2.80 × 3.40 m, 9.5 m²: above the 9 m² and 2.50 m limits in the Turkish regulation.
- Bathroom 2.80 × 2.20 m, 6.2 m²: shower, toilet, washbasin and washing machine.
Tips for a small home
- Open plan instead of a hall. In a small home a separate hall takes up space; the entrance can open straight into the living room.
- Put windows on two sides. Windows facing each other ventilate the house naturally.
- Keep wet areas side by side. The water supply and drainage of the kitchen and bathroom run through the same place.
- Make room for storage. A cottage tends to have lots of tools and equipment; consider a separate shed outside.
The plans and dimensions in this post are layout ideas. A building permit, structural design or construction project requires a design by, and approval from, a licensed architect and engineer; ask your municipality about the details of the regulations.
